Yes, the straight look isn't climbing the chartbusters on the hair style meters anymore; giving way to a trend that calls for a mane that's untamed and wild. With sensing my skepticism on an outright whacky style though, Shalika Kunwar, Director of the sleek new salonu00a0 Oomph Salon & Academy in Koramangala, suggested I try a mix of a prim n propah and a boho chic crop.
The Blossom Hair Spa worked wonders with a hair protein mask, which gives it the required sheen. A relaxing massage and a steam followed the application of the mask. While allowing my hair to soak in the steam, I twirled my eyes around the salon which is done up with Buddha figurines andu00a0 water streaming from the little fountains making for a soothing and calming ambience.
Shalika doesn't like to do things in a jiffy and gives each of her clients the required time. Her assistants Shahrukh, Chandru and other Schwarzkopf Professional trained stylists were handpicked by model turned actress (of the not-so-famous Bollywood flick Prem ka Game with Arbaaz Khan) Madhuri Bhattacharya while on her visits to Mumbai. Since Oomph is also Madhuri's partner venture, she wanted to make sure there were no stones left unturned.u00a0u00a0u00a0

After a quick wash, Chandru blow-dried my hair. "I prefer a dry cut for the first visit, since I need to work around the current layer and style to tweak and transform," says Shalika, who's been styling hair for 14 years. The hair was cut in layers, which gave it a bounce and volume. A hair styling appointment with Shalika costs Rs 850 and with her senior hairstylists costs Rs 750 for a cut.
The highlights of the salon though are the Seah hair spa and the OPI Nail Lounge.
