New Delhi: A mild earthquake on Wednesday evening hit the Kashmir Valley and the India-Nepal border region, officials said.

The "slight" quake measured 3.3 on the Richter scale, the India Meteorological Department said.

The earthquake that shook Kashmir valley tonight sparked panic among the residents who rushed out of their homes.

The tremor, which occurred at 8.02 pm, was felt across Kashmir, officials said.

They said there were not reports of any casualties or damage to property due to the tremor so far.

Kashmir is located in seismic zone V and witnessed one of the worst earthquakes in its history in October 2005 when over 1300 people were killed and property worth thousands of crores damaged.
