MCD orders inquiry into the building collapse in Shahdara that hurt 20

The inquiry order came following allegations that sub-standard material was being used in the five-storey building that caved at 4.40 pm.

As the police, firemen and locals were busy in rescuing those trapped under the debris, the police registered a case against the owner Subhash Sharma.

The building, originally three-storied, was being extended by two floors and construction work was on when the incident occurred. The police also said that heavy rains that lashed the city on Tuesday morning might have triggered the collapse.

The injured were rushed to the nearby Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital. Though two fire tenders and disaster management team was sent to the accident site initially, two more were rushed when the gravity of the situation was known.

The police said the building on Mandoli Road was already in a dilapidated condition. There was a furniture shop on the ground floor of the building.
