Wednesday's downpour brought a flood of woes for many Delhiites. In Pushp Vihar colony of south Delhi, the ground collapsed in a large area that damaged underground electric cables, resulting in short circuit and sparks flying everywhere. Residents got out of their houses and some called up the fire department. Within a few minutes a team of firemen reached the spot.
"The short circuit had caused a fire. It took us about 5 to 10 minutes to get the situation under control. Only one fire tender had been sent to the area. There were no casualties or injuries in the incident," a fire department official said.
The electricity supply was cut for the safety of the residents. Employees from the power department were called in to repair the cables and the electricity supply was restored after a while. The fire department then declared the area safe and resident returned to their homes after a few hours of panic.
