Delhi Commission for Women comes to her rescue after MiD DAY report
After MiD DAY reported about a woman being tortured by her in-laws for dowry and for 'committing the crime' of giving birth to two girls, the Delhi Commission for Women has granted a letter for security to the victim and her brothers. The commission has told Parveen to call the police whenever her father-in-law, a cop, threatens her, and she will be granted security.
"After observing the case we realised that the father-in-law could be dangerous for Parveen and her brothers. Since he can retaliate in a violent manner, we wrote a letter for the security of Parveen and her brothers," said an officer at the commission.
Parveen's husband Nasir and his father Islamuddin, who is a sub-inspector in Bhajanpura police station, were not prepared to talk to MiD DAY. When we asked them about Parveen's complaints, they refused to comment on any issue, saying this was a private matter.
Parveen (28) went to the Delhi Commission for Women after allegedly being tortured by her husband and father-in-law for over ten years. Parveen has left her husband's house and now lives with her brother and mother in Jafarabad area of Delhi.
"I told the commission that my father-in -law had said to me that one bullet costs only 65 rupees and that he will buy three - one for me and two for my brothers. Hearing this, the officer said that they will provide me security if he threatens me again. Neither father nor son was present on July 6, when summoned by the commission. I am waiting for the next date but it's hard to bring up three children without money. I want money from my husband for my children; nothing for me," Parveen added.
Earlier when Parveen had raised the financial issue, her drug-addict husband and her cop father-in-law had allegedly told her to join the flesh trade and that they would not give any money for her daughters.
