Nothing beats Delhi's summer better than fun new salads with refreshing, spicy sips. The Guide sampled three summer special menus from around town

The Tangy Masala Lemonade, Aam Panna and Aam Lassi at Nirula's

Here, a panna
You've probably had your sundaes there since childhood, when A graders landed a bumper serving of their stuff for free. The first Indian fast-food joint and an ever-fav through decades, Nirula's has finally done just what it takes to make another desi coming - added spice to all things nice. When trying out their Desi Mania spread, start with the evergreen aam panna if not the masala lemonade.
If you've done enough of that and would rather sip on something sweet, their aam lassi is what it takes to raise a brow. Munch on a mirchila murg burger, dripping with a dilled pickle tang. The Lagan ki seekh kathi roll is highly recommended among the rest of the stuff. If you're a herbivore, dig into theu00a0 Chatak Matak Masala Burger, fresh with its flavored potato patty, mint mayonnaise, sauteed onions and tomato slices.
Cool off with their desi cassatta: A sundae prepared from egg-less vanilla, pistachio nut and zafrani badam pista ice cream scoops flavored with kewra Syrup and garnished with fried cashew nuts. Seek something less fancy? the gulab jamun sundae, with hot gulab jamuns served with vanilla ice cream and garnished with chironji, is something you just can't get enough of, even if you're fullu00a0 to the brim. Ask us!
At: All Nirula's outlets. Meal for two: Rs 200 onwards.

Hawa Hawaii
If you're all kicked up about the new Ice Lounge in town, let us warn you; you won't last more than 20 minutes in there, thanks to the -6 degree Celsius temperature. So what after it? The garma garam grub in their lounge outside has something to look forward to. It's sassy, lively, sexy, with its reds and pinks, and a karaoke that is bound to make you want to test your vocal chords.
Croon a Celine Dion number or a Bee Gees evergreen, or wait for the DJ to help you shake it like Shakira, or join the merry train and feel part of the little family. Of course, after you try their summer specials. The Hawaiian salad, high on its fruit flavour, is filling yet light, and the classic Caesar salad comes a close second.
Team it with a Schneider or Bombay Sapphire, and if you fancy a bite of the sea in between, the Cajun tiger prawns are a great bet. And the bites are fresh enough to make to want to run back into their sub-zero hole. Sing a song, let the bright green of the lettuce lighten you up and the beer give you a pleasing burp. We loved it.
At: Ice Lounge, MGF Metroplitan, Saket. Timings: 1 pm to 1 am. Meal for two: Rs 2000. Call: 41017171.

Ducking watermelon
Good Oriental salads aren't easy to find in the Chinjabi capital. But Taman Gang, with its soft interiors and soothing air, has stuff bound to cheer your belly up. Don't get bogged down by the limited options you see on the menu card; ask for the spicy salad special menu and thy shall be rewarded. The aromatic duck & watermelon salad, with soy caramel (sweet) and roasted juliennes of duck mixed with a tinge of fresh hoi son sauce, ice berg lettuce ,watermelon, and spring onions make it a tangy must. The Pomelo Veg Salad - an exotic Malaysian citrus fruit pulp preparation mixed with mint sauce, fresh red chillies, fresh mint, olive oil, cherry tomatoes, does it for herbivores.
Fruit lovers wouldn't mind the Papaya Veg Salad, spicy with raw papaya, green beans, cherry tomatoes, garlic, lemon juice, light soya, chilli oil, crushed roasted peanut, mint and coriander. If you've been there, done all that, the Veg Silken tofu salad is a unique serving. It's the spiced cashew dressing that does it. The alcohol and wine options are as impressive, if not the polite staff and good Japanese tofu. If you're the kind that'd rather stay away from spice, try aji ponza - an enriching sweet and sour green salad made with loloroso lettuce, green lettuce, iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, sun-dried tomatoes, along with a tinge of lemon juice and light soya olive oil.
At: Taman Gang, 2nd Floor, DLF Promenade ,Vasant Kunj. On till 31st May. Timings: Noon to Midnight. Meal for two: Rs 1500. Call: 45567777.
