Google paid tribute to late ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh through a doodle on his 72nd birth anniversary on Friday

The Google doodle showed Jagjit Singh playing a harmonium. He died on October 10, 2011, following a brain haemorrhage.

Jagjit Singh, amongst those who popularised ghazals in households all over the subcontinent, came into prominence with his soulful compositions for the 1982 film Arth. He sang all the songs of the film, including Jhuki jhuki si nazar, Tum itna jo, Koi ye kaise bataye and Teri khushboo mein base khat.

Incidentally, Singh topped a list of popular singers of the genre. According to Google Search Trends, Jagjit Singh was people’s first choice - both in India and abroad, when it came to songs, lyrics, and mp3s of ghazals.u00a0
