Mayor Rajpal raises Rs 500 crore to turn city to tourist destination; plans to open PMC offices across the world

Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal's official trip to Germany was worth it.

Rajpal managed to convince top corporate honchos and has got a sanction of Rs 500 crore that will be used to transform the city into a tourist destination. The mayor also plans to restructure the historic Shaniwarwada.

"We plan to look into the Mutha river development, adventure sports, children's science museum. The Volkswagen Company and other corporate sectors in Germany will provide Rs 500 crore ," said Rajpal.

"My prime objective is to develop Pune as a tourist destination so that it is on par with international cities and attracts tourists from across the world," said Rajpal.

"The logistics will be worked out after an expert committee from urban designing, economics, administration, science, technology and history will be formed."

According to Rajpal, the PMC will also have its international office soon as it is in talks with various international cities such as Bremen, Okayama and San Jose about it.

"The international office can enhance relations and attract various international activities like sports and cultural events," said Rajpal.

"Apart from having direct relationship with the international cities, we can also be a catalyst in developing tie-ups between the corporate organisation within the city and its international counterparts.
