The incident came to light on Monday after Karve Nagar resident Sambhaji Gulabrao Ningune lodged a compliant at the Hadapsar police station about the robbery.

According to the complainant, he dropped the passenger in Handewadi on Friday and was returning to Sharda Center via Sasanenagar-Ramtekdi Road.

Ningune said there was a dead animal lying in the middle of road and slowed down to steer clear of the body near Dream Furniture showroom.

It was here that the robbers appeared from nowhere and asked him to stop and accused him of running over their pet. Then without a warning, one of them attacked Nigune with a blade and snatched his chain following which all six fled the spot.

Sub-Inspector D M Darade is investigating the case.
