The Commonwealth Games concluded three months ago, but the tremors are still being felt. An unlikely casualty is the 16th Delhi Book Fair.
Amidst all the hype and hoopla surrounding CWG 2010, many forgot about the literary show that is usually held in September. Now the Delhi Book Fair is scheduled to commence from the 25th of December.u00a0 But the number of countries participating has been reduced because it's Christmas.
According to the organisers, only two countries - China and Pakistan have given their confirmation to participate. Last year, there were a large number of European countries which came to the event.
"As the fair is organised at the time of Christmas, there will be less participants from European and Western countries," said Dr Subas Pani, Chairman and Managing Director, Indian Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO).
Participants are annoyed; they say the delay and non-participation of international publishers will affect business.
"This will be a huge loss for all of us as the number of participating countries has been reduced. We can just keep our fingers crossed," said Rupesh Agarwal of Disha Publications, Malviya Nagar.
