Post-mortem says newborn's body bore severe injury marks

Female infant found dead in Bhosari nullah

In a grim case of female infanticide, the residents of Balaji Nagar in Bhosari, near Pune, discovered the body of a newborn female infant in a nullah on Monday morning. According to the hospital post-mortem report, the baby bore injury marks and died due to a brain hemorrhage.

The police cite the case as a clear-cut case of female infanticide. The baby was found wrapped in a piece of cloth by Baba Dhotre, a local resident, who on discovering the body, called up the police control room. The police took the baby’s body to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial hospital for examination.

“The infant was alive but was thrown onto the ground due to which it died. It is a criminal act and we will soon register a case against some unidentified suspects in relation to the incident,” said Senior Police Inspector D P Patil.

He further said that the police will invoke section 315 of the Indian Penal Code which entails 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for the accused on conviction by the court.u00a0
