In a raid at a store in Akurdi, the Chinchwad police recovered fake cosmetics worth Rs 38,000 being sold under a reputed brand's name. The products included perfumes, deodorants and toiletries among others. These were being sold under the names of some big players in the cosmetic industry.
Ranaram Thanaram Devasi, a salesman, was nabbed on the spot. The shop owner, Samelram Devasi, had stepped out for some work at the time of the raid. A complaint regarding the same was registered by Pramod Mokashi who works as an Inspection Officer at Sai Copyright Protection, a consulting firm. Investigating Officer
S S Syyed said: "We immediately swung into action after the complaint was registered, conducted the raid and arrested the culprit."
Mokashi said, "This shopkeeper was a wholesaler who used to bring the goods from Mumbai and sell them." He urged customers to be careful. "Every time you buy a product, look at the bar code no, customer service no, printed MRP, which are missing in case of fake products."
