Sport an earthy look. The Cottage Mela at the Safina Plaza will give you a good dose of all things ethnic and traditional
Central Cottage Industries Emporium (CCIE), is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a mega exhibition and sale of artifacts from all over India. The event which is on till the 23rd of this month at Safina Plaza from 10 am to 9 pm is all about adding bright and cheerful colours to your homes and your wardrobe. CCIE has been exploring and showcasing India's rich traditional art. We give you a foretaste of the sale.

Ethnic touch
The exhibition and sale has two sections. Walk into the furniture section, touted to be the showstopper this year. This section is half full of ethnic Shekhawati furniture. All the Shekhawati furniture showcased are made from sheesham wood, which is a softer version of rosewood grown in UP and Rajasthan. Look out for carved bar counters, diwans, cabinets, dressing table, swing, television stands etc. Most of the furniture is contemporary with an ethnic touch. There are also set of Oriental furniture, useful for work spaces and room specific,u00a0 ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 50,000.
For the arty hearties
The art and craft is the most colourful section with artifacts from all over the country. There are framed and non-framed paintings made on hand made papers, the non-framed paintings ranges from Rs 150 to Rs 15,000 and the framed ones range from Rs 295 to 25,000. The exhibition also consists of Worli paintings by the artist SP Suresh, which are mostly Egyptian style. There are also metallic paintings from Jaipur. Bangles of different works like kalamkari, kundan, bandhini and Mughal design are also exhibited, which are from Lucknow and Rajasthan. There are also embroidered bedspreads, cushions and cushion covers from Kolkata ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 3,500. Also, check out the wooden carvings and jewelled paintings from Salem with natural colours on teak wood base with 18 karat gold and semi precious stones, in the range of Rs 2,500 to Rs 50,000. Try the jewellery made of five metals (panchaloka) ranging from Rs 30 to Rs 1000 to add that extra touch to any outfit.

We liked the block print cotton kurtas from Kolkata and chikan work cotton kurtas from Lucknow. There are also cotton shirts for men. Other knick knacks you will find here are sandal wood artifacts from Karnataka, walnut wood and papier mache artifacts from Kashmir, soap stone and alabaster stone artifacts.
