Fearing backlash after Ayodhya verdict, people keep away from restaurants, malls and theatres
An official from Inox further mentioned that it was expected and they were not expecting business above 20 per cent.On the other hand, restaurants saw some crowd coming in during lunch hours mostly the office crowd.
Ganesh Shetty, president, Pune Restaurants and Hotels Association said that overall restaurants saw just 60 per cent business. "As bars and restaurants which survive on alcohol had been shut, there was no business. Very few people were seen during lunch hours."
Atul Upadhyay, GM, Pride Hotel said that the impact has not been much. "A seminar in the hotel was postponed and some four rooms bookings were cancelled. However, the restaurants were full during lunch hours."
Naveen Rajwal, manager, Yellow Chillies, Koregaon Park said: "Definitely there was an impact. At lunch we hardly had any people, only 27 compared to 110 to 120 every day. A booking for the night was postponed to Monday."
Even malls wore a deserted look till late evening and it was only after 7 pm that business picked up. C Naveen Kumar, Asst. Store manager said: "We had a dull day till evening. There was drop of almost 90 per cent in business but after 7 pm the crowd picked up and it was almost 50 per cent full."u00a0(Inputs from Shree Lahiri)
