MCD decides to go for another round of desilting of drains for CWG

A senior works department official told MiD DAY that the step was being taken keeping in view reports from local councillors that desilting work has not been done properly and they were already apprehensive about the arrangements. "We are doing whatever we can for remedial measures. After the monsoon is over, we are planning to carry out the desilting exercise one more time," said the official.
As reported by MiD DAY councillors from over 70 wards had complained to works committee chairman, Jagdish Mamgain about the shoddy work done in their respective areas by the works department.

MCD saved around Rs 25-30 crore by not outsourcing the work. However, officials say due to shortage of staff in the wards and lack of proper checks, the exercise has failed.u00a0u00a0
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has already announced that contingency measures for monsoons which are generally withdrawn in the first week of September will continue till the time CWG is on.u00a0 The Met department has predicted rains during the event.
When contacted, Works Committee Chairman Jagdish Mamgai told MiD DAY, "The plan is being discussed with the officials and a decision would be taken soon."
