City-based pediatrician alleges that his friend convinced him he would get him admission in a dental college for further studies
Abhishek Chandra, a resident of Palakkad in Kerala runs a private clinic in Nagarabhavi. Chandra said that he got acquainted with Rakesh Kumar through his friend Shoaib Ali, who claimed that Kumar had contacts, and could get him a (Master of Dental Surgery) MDS seat at the Maruthi Medical College.
Chandra, who wanted to study further, readily agreed and paid him Rs 12.8 lakh in May. As soon as they were paid, Kumar and Ali stopped taking his calls.
Threatened
Eventually, the admission time was over and the academic year for the MD course started. Chandra tried to contact the duo several times, but to no avail. Finally, Kumar gave Abhishek a cheque, which bounced due to insufficient funds.
"When I called them saying that I'd complain to the cops, they threatened to kill me," Chandra said.
Fearing for his life, he approached the Chandra Layout police station seeking protection on Sunday. The police have taken up a cheating and criminal intimidation case and are investigating.
