There is method in madness. And music too. That is the mantra the band members of Dischordian go by. "Madness is the key to great music. And musicians are bound to be chaotic at times," laughs Gareth D'Mello. That's what the name of their band standsu00a0 for -- chaotic moments.
An acoustic band made up of Gareth D'mello on vocals, guitar and harmonica, Agnelo Picardo on the trumpet, maracas and djembe and Howard Pereira on guitar and vocals, Dischordian performs an eclectic blend of fusion,
alternative, punk, blues and country.
When the trio came together almost a year ago their credo was to create music influenced by various situations in life. Love, life, hatred and even mundane things like sleeping find mention in their lyrics. "Lyrics is a vital part of our music as is vocals. Without interesting lyrics, each song cannot compel the listener. As we work only on originals, the words become even more crucial," says Gareth.u00a0
It's the first time the band performs in the city and that has the band pretty charged up. Dischordian will be playing some of their popular numbers including Don't Wake Me Up, Old Whore, I Am Happy That They Died, Baby May Be and Your Right Heel. The last one is particularly close to their heart. "We wrote it after the Sri Ram Sene attacks on women in pubs in Bangalore. It is a salute to women," says Gareth.
There is good news for fans as well. Dischordian has finished recording its debut album, which is still untitled and expect to release it by the end of this year. There isn't exactly a common theme though. "It talks about everything we have come across till date and has left an impression on us," says Gareth.
Where do they see themselves five years down the line? "We want to release more albums and play more regularly across the country. In fact, we make it a point to meet up and work on new tracks," D'mello said. Just back from a well-received gig in Goa they can't help but look forward to performing in Pune.
