Owing to the unscheduled load shedding for hours in the city, the diesel sale has increased by 25 per cent for the past one month. The cuts go up to as many as six hours a day.
Bhushan Narang, president of Bangalore Petroleum Dealers Association, said, "I can't tell the exact figure (of diesel prices) but it has definitely gone up."
The city has been facing an acute shortage of power for the past few days due to failure of the Bellary Thermal Power Station (BTPS) generators.
All this is because most of the Thermal plant units are shut, as they are not in working condition and bad rains in catchment areas.
BESCOM Technical Director H Nagesh said, "There is 30 per cent power shortage in allocation to BESCOM due to heavy rains in the catchment areas.
Besides, the BTPS thermal power plant had technical problem which forced for an unscheduled load shedding."
"Since Monday afternoon we haven't had a power cut in the city. The government has purchased 200 MW each from Jindal and NTPC.
The problem started because only five out of the eight units at the Bellary Thermal Power Station (BPTS) were operating. But now that it has been restored, the production has started.
By tomorrow, it is likely to produce 400 MW and production at the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RPTS) plants has been increased," he added.
BESCOM has proposed to increase the tariff by 75 paisa per unit, as they are facing a total revenue deficit of
Rs 6,499 crore.
But the actual deficit is Rs 4,039 crore as the subsidy of Rs 2,460 crore which is to be given by the government to the power sector.
The deficit will increase, as the government has decided to purchase 1000 MW from outside the state from September.
