Suspected case of honour killing
Six days after a teenager girl and her 20-year-old boyfriend were tortured to death for honour by the girl's family in Swaroop Nagar, another couple may have fallen to the whims of caste in the national capital on Sunday evening.
Where's the honour? A TV grab of Kuldeep and Monica who were shot
dead in east Delhi on Sunday night
A married couple was shot dead at northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar, I block. The incident occurred around 10 pm when Kuldeep, 26, was returning home from his office. He was gunned down in his Maruti Esteem Car while his wife Monica, 23, was shot dead at her flat in the area. The couple had got married in 2006 against their family wishes and were staying away ever since.
According to a senior police official, Kuldeep belonged to the Balyan community and her wife was a Gujjar by caste. "Since their marriage, the couple was staying away from their parents who lives in Wazirpur. However, it would be too early to say whether it is an honour killing or not, we are probing the double murder from all possible angles," he said.
"We have sent the bodies for post-mortem and the picture would get clear once we get the autopsy report," he added.
Kuldeep worked with an HCL call centre in Gurgaon while Monica was a housewife. Sunil Agarwal, the landlord of the house where the couple used to stay said, "We are four brothers staying at the house. However, none of us was there when the incident occurred. Since the working hours of Kuldeep were odd, we could hardly meet. My mother kept meeting his wife but she never shared any problems with us. We are shocked to hear about their killings."
He said the couple was living with them for the past four months.
Meanwhile the police was trying to contact the families of the victims. "Since, the entry to the house did not seem forced, it can be assumed that somebody known to Monica had come," the police officer said.
