The outer district police finally corroborated they have nabbed notorious criminal Sharwan along with his accomplice Surender on Sunday. Haryana police had announced a reward of Rs 5000 on Sharwan's head.
MiD DAY had reported the arrest of the two gangsters on August 16, following a gun battle near Bawana Stadium.
When this reporter contacted DCP Chhaya Sharma she had denied the incident. However, a senior police officer had confirmed the news. On Wednesday, the DCP endorsed the incident via a press conference.
"Sharwan was on the run after murdering his cousin in December 2009. Police located him near Bawana Stadium where he came in a stolen Verna car. He tried to escape and opened fire on the police team.
He and his associate shot two rounds but were overpowered by our cops. Pistols and live cartridges have been recovered from them. Surender alias Neetu joined Sharwan after he suffered huge losses in his cable business," the DCP said.
