Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram Monday visited the Delhi Police headquarters to review its preparedness to combat terrorism against the backdrop of number of terror strikes in India last year.

Chidambaram addressed a meeting attended by Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal, all special police commissioners, joint commissioners, additional commissioners and district deputy commissioners.

"A presentation was made before him regarding the force's preparations and series of measures taken by us against terrorism especially after the Delhi and Mumbai terror attacks," said a police officer.

"He (Chidambaram) was also briefed about the future requirements and proposals pending before the home ministry for some years," he added.

According to sources, Chidambaram visited the police headquarters for the first time since he took over as the home minister. He discussed the build-up of new terror probe agency National Investigation Agency (NIA) and laid stress on speedy sharing of intelligence among other agencies.

The minister spent nearly one-and-half-hour with the officers of Delhi Police.
