A woman died after being attacked by a wild boar in a remote village of Odisha's Kendrapara district triggering violent protests by locals who went on a rampage today setting the Gahirmatha forest range office on fire

The unruly people also attacked the forest personnel while keeping some of them hostage. The agitated people also attacked on forest personnel including the local forest range officer.


Two motorized vessels and a motor bike owned by the department were also set on fire, said officials. The woman identified as Priti Mandal of a nearby village was attacked by the boar yesterday.



Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) Forest Division, Divisional Forest Officer, Kedar Kumar Swain, said that "Extensive damage has been caused to the forest department property.


The death of a woman following wild boar attack provoked the people to go berserk". Kendrapara SP Rabi Narayan Behera said "situation is tense is the village.

Police forces have reached the spot. The situation has been brought under control".
