The atmosphere at 3 Motilal Nehru Place was festive. Supporters thronged Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's official residence since early morning on Thursday with groups of musicians, adding colour to Dikshit's 74th birthday celebrations.

On Wednesday a large number of Congress leaders had turned up at Dikshit's residence to watch the India-Pakistan semi-final match as the Delhi Cm watched the contest at home.

On Thursday, a large number of Congressmen, including her Cabinet colleagues thronged her residence to wish her on the occasion.

The Chief Minister also had to cut several birthday cakes which well-wishers and friends had brought. Dikshit was presented with bouquets, greeting cards, flower pots and other gifts. Members of her family, including son and MP Sandeep Dikshit, were among the first to wish her.

PM Manmohan Singh also greeted her on the occasion. "I think people appreciate my work and that is why they have come in large numbers. I will continue to work hard to make the city better," Dikshit said.
