Looks like even the BJP is battling recession. Party workers handed out water bottles meant for KSRTC buses during L K Advani's rally at National College Grounds on Monday.
Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) comes under transport minister and BJP leader R Ashok and provides water bottles to its Volvo fleet called Airavat.
On Monday, the thousands gathered to listen to Advani were handed a 500 ml packaged drinking water bottle. The bottle said, 'Not for Sale. Specially packed for KSRTC'.
"People noticed the misuse after a few bottles were distributed. Someone informed R Ashok immediately. After that, the KSRTC bit was scratched out with a black sketch pen," said a person who attended the programme.
The 500 ml bottles are branded as Cool. They are manufactured and marketed by Taurus Beverages Ltd, Hosur Road, Bangalore. The bottle in MiD DAY's possessionu00a0 has the manufacturing date as 17 April 2009, and in place of MRP, it says, 'Not for Sale'. Below the brand name 'Cool', it says 'Not for Sale. Specially packed for KSRTC."
Questions. And no satisfactory answers
When MiD DAY called transport minister R Ashok, he gave contradicting answers to our questions:

MiD DAY: Why were bottles meant for KSRTC buses distributed at the rally?
R Ashok: Excess bottles were distributed. The company had scrapped them. They are available in all shops. The company has put a black mark on them and sold them. Water is supplied even in airlines. The excess bottles are then sent to shops.
Did the BJP buy the excess bottles from the suppliers?
BJP is not in such a bad state that we have to distribute water. We have no relationship with the water bottles.... Even in KSRTC we do not provide water in any buses.
