At least 17 people were injured, three of them seriously, when part of an under-construction gate of the Mahalaxmi Jagadamba Devasthan temple in Koradi area of Nagpur district in Maharashtra collapsed on Saturday, the officials said, reported the PTI.

"Seventeen workers were injured, three of whom are critical. They have been hospitalised. Rescue operations were launched immediately by the police, fire brigade and those in the vicinity. NDRF personnel are also at the site. The operation is being monitored by District Collector Vipin Itankar and Deputy Commissioner of Police Niketan Kadam," an official said, according to the PTI.

The incident took place at around 8 pm on the Khaparkheda-Koradi route, where construction work was being carried out by contractors under the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA).
