They alleged that people in the BJP are a bit insecure, as Somanna's hold on Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) cannot be matched.
The uprising
Although Chief Minister BS Yeddyuarappa has assured Somanna along with Thippanna and D C Thammanna who have joined BJP after quitting JD (S) a seat in the legislative council, party insiders believe it's unlikely to happen.
"Both Tippanna and Somanna have recently joined the party. But there are several BJP leaders who have stood by the party for long and expect to be rewarded for their devotion.
How can they be ignored and Somanna get a chance to enjoy power?" said a BJP leader, on condition of anonymity.
He added that Somanna was made a cabinet minister when he joined the BJP. "He should have won the by-polls to return back to power.
We won't allow party leaders to favour him just because he is Lingayat and close to Yeddyurappa," he said.
False promise?
"The Lingayat community which is supporting Somanna - is putting a lot of pressure on the CM, which he cannot ignore.
However, Yeddyurappa is aware of its political implications," said a leader from Yeddyurappa camp. He added that Yeddyurappa would pretend as if he is supporting Somanna, but I am not what the result will be.
Speaking to MiD DAY, Somanna said, "I have complete faith in Yeddyurappa and I'm committed to work for the party.
Besides, I am not interested in power politics. I will be happy if he makes me a MLC, however, I won't be disheartened if he decides otherwise."
