Students of a city college allege that their project guide passed lewd remarks and would call them to his room under some pretext or the other

Supritha (name changed), a VI semester student of mechanical branch of SJ Polytechnic, has alleged that Narayana Swamy, who is also her project guide, passed lewd gestures and remarks after summoning her to his chambers.

"You look beautiful in this dress," he is alleged to have remarked, while he clicked her photos from his mobile phone and asked her to stand for hours in front him for no reason," she said, adding that he even smiled at her and touched her.

On another instance, when the student did not turn up after Swamy summoned her, he allegedly threatened her, "Why don't you come to my chambers when I call you?

You know I am the guide and evaluate your papers. If you don't come whenever I call, i'll see to it that you fail in the exams."

This is not all. Swamy who also conducts internal practical exams frisked girl students on the pretext of checking for chits.

"On one occasion, he asked me to remove the apron and put his hands in my pocket. I objected to it and walked out of the class," she alleged.

When she discussed this with her classmates, other girls (eight of them) admitted to having faced similar harassment from him.

However, the other girls were scared to file a complaint, since Swamy had threatened to fail them in their exams.

Supriya managed to garner support from others and went with a written complaint against Swamy to the principal on March 23.

Instead of taking action, the principal informed Swamy, who screamed at the students and took signatures from them on blank sheets.

Not only this, Swamy even demanded a laptop as gift from the VI semester class and Rs 3,000 each from students to give him favourable marks in the practical exams.

"I'll be your valuator and I'll fail you if you don't oblige me," he allegedly told them.

Supriya who hails from a middle-class family complained to her parents, but they advised her to ignore him, since she needed to complete her studies and find a decent job to support her family.

But when the harassment became unbearable, she decided to file a complaint with the police, seeking
protection.

The Vidhana Soudha police have registered a harassment case against Swamy.

The police have summoned Swamy to get his statement. "We are investigating the case," said an inspector from the station.

Despite repeated attempts, Swamy remained available for comments.
