NGO seeks President's intervention to get India-born designer a fair trial
After all the efforts to save Anand Jon, the India-born designer serving a 59-year prison term in the US for allegedly sexually abusing several models, failed to achieve anything his supporters have appealed to the President.

An NGO Mamta Charitable Foundation has written to President Pratibha Patil, seeking her intervention to ensure that the designer gets a fair trial and he may be extradited to India.
The foundation's appeal has been reportedly acknowledged by the President's office on August 10. "The medical evidence shows that there was no sign of assault. Anand passed the polygraph test; still he was sent behind bars for 59 years which not even a murderer gets. The entire event was unheard off. So Mamta Charitable foundation decided to appeal to the government so that Anand can get justice," said Sanjana Jon, his sister.
Anand's family members are keeping their fingers crossed as there are rumours that India and the US are exploring the possibility of Indian nationals jailed in US prisons and US citizens incarcerated in India getting to serve out the remainder of their sentences in their own country under the terms of a bilateral treaty.
"Such treaties are designed to relieve some of the special hardships that fall upon convicts imprisoned far from home, and to facilitate the rehabilitation of these offenders in familiar surroundings. So we are hopeful that soon we could see Anand back in India. We don't want government to look into legal matters but to help him in bringing back to India," Sanjana said.
