67 per cent of overall tunnelling work of Airoli-Katai Naka project complete

The final blast for the daylighting of the in-progress left side tunnel of Parsik Hills under the Airoli-Katai Naka road project was done in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. <p>The total length of phase 1 is 1.69 kilometers. There are two tunnels along the length, and the rest is a road and an elevated road. According to the project, there will be four 4+4 lanes in the tunnel (Including 1+1 refuge lane)</p>

<p>The tunneling work are being done by New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) -- a controlled blasting technology.</p>

<p>This project will reduce the distance between Kalyan-Dombivali and Navi Mumbai by 7 km. "The project will greatly benefit commuters heading to Kalyan, Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, and Badlapur," said a press release.</p>
