Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle, one of India’s most celebrated musical icons, has passed away, marking the end of an extraordinary era in Indian music. 

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde paid heartfelt tributes, emphasising that her legacy transcends mortality.

In his tribute, Shinde said Asha Bhosle’s contribution to music is immeasurable and unparalleled. Calling her a “pride of Maharashtra” and a symbol of Marathi identity, he noted that her legacy would continue to inspire generations.

Shinde highlighted that her songs have been an emotional companion for listeners, resonating in both joyful and difficult moments. “Even today, the thousands of songs she rendered feel as fresh as ever. As long as the sun and moon exist, her songs will remain immortal and continue to bring joy to music lovers,” he said.

Reflecting on his personal association, Shinde said he felt privileged to have conferred upon her the prestigious Maharashtra Bhushan Award during his tenure as Chief Minister, calling it one of the proudest moments of his public life.

Recalling her public remarks, Shinde noted that Asha Bhosle had appreciated the state government’s Ladki Bahin Yojana. She had spoken about the significance of the Rs 1,500 assistance under the scheme, mentioning that such support would have been valuable during her early years when her family faced financial hardships.
