Thane: HSC student dies after falling from local train on way to board exam

An 18-year-old HSC student from Dombivli died after falling from a local train between Mumbra and Kalwa while travelling to his English board exam. The tragedy has reignited concerns over overcrowding in Mumbai’s suburban rail network

An 18-year-old Std XII student died on the morning of the first day of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations after falling from a local train between Mumbra and Kalwa stations.

Soham Sachin Kathare, a resident of Dombivli, was travelling to Kalwa for his English board exam when the incident occurred. According to Government Railway Police officials, he was declared dead at a Thane hospital at 10.30 am, before the exam began at 11 am on February 10.
