The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/imd-forecasts-rain-in-kolkata-south-bengal-till-tuesday-north-bengal-to-see-thunderstorms-23620512" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">India Meteorological Department (IMD)</a> has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and nearby districts, warning of possible heatwave conditions on Friday and the following days.
The alert also covers the districts of Thane, Palghar and Raigad in Maharashtra.
A yellow alert generally indicates that people should remain cautious and take necessary precautions due to potentially extreme weather conditions.
It said, "Heatwave conditions in isolated pockets."
According to the weather department, the maximum temperature in Mumbai is likely to reach around 38 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may remain around 23 degrees Celsius.
The Regional Met Centre (RMC) in its Mumbai weather bulletin on Friday morning stated that the minimum temperature in the city was on recorded at 22.8 degrees Celsius at the Santacruz observatory and at Colaba the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.4 degrees Celsius.
The city and suburban areas are expected to experience mainly clear skies, which may lead to higher daytime temperatures, it said.
<h2>Heatwave conditions likely in isolated areas</h2>
IMD has warned that heatwave conditions are very likely at isolated places in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-heatwave-imd-issues-yellow-alert-for-mumbai-thane-palghar-predicts-hot-and-humid-weather-conditions-23620367" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai</a> and its suburbs.
A heatwave occurs when temperatures remain significantly above normal levels for several days, which can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly among children, elderly people and outdoor workers.
Earlier this week, Mumbai, its adjoining areas and parts of of Maharashtra were under an orange and yellow alerts, predicting heatwave and hot and humid weather in isolated pockets.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature recorded by the IMD Santacruz observatory was 40 degrees Celsius, which was 7.6 degrees Celsius above normal, while the IMD Colaba observatory recorded 35.4 degrees Celsius, which was 4.3 degrees Celsius above normal.
<h2>AQI in Mumbai</h2>
According to the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) Sameer app, Mumbai&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-haze-mystifies-residents-as-aqi-shows-calm-skies-despite-low-visibility-23620569" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Air Quality Index</a> (AQI) was on Friday recorded 'Satisfactory' at 10:05 pm and stood at 92.
A health impact message stated, "Minor breathing discomfort to sensitive people."

Borivali East: 97 (Satisfactory)
Byculla: 96 (Satisfactory)
Malad West: 110 (Moderate)
Chembur: 84 (Satisfactory)
Colaba: 92 (Satisfactory)
Meanwhile, the air quality was recorded as 'Moderate' in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/west-asia-war-lpg-crisis-hit-thane-in-maharashtra-over-800-hotels-and-restaurants-face-possible-shutdown-23620482" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane</a> which reported an AQI at 128 on Friday morning.
In Kalyan AQI was recorded at 122, and in Navi Mumbai at 100 both were in 'Moderate' categories.
