The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has upgraded its weather alert for Mumbai from a Yellow to an Orange alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the city, likely to be accompanied by strong winds.
In a nowcast warning issued at 10:30 AM IST on Tuesday, the IMD stated that moderate spells of rain are very likely to occur at isolated locations in Mumbai and Thane districts over the next 3–4 hours. There is also a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning, along with gusty winds in some areas.
Residents have been advised to exercise caution while moving outdoors and to stay alert for sudden weather changes.
