IMD issues yellow alert for city; thunderstorms and gusty winds expected

The India Meteorological Department IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky with chances of thunderstorms moderate rainfall and gusty winds across Mumbai and adjoining areas on Friday The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 35 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius respectivelyA yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai Thane Palghar Raigad Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour Light to moderate rainfall is expected throughout the day across these districtsIn Mumbai Thane and Palghar thunderstorm activity with lightning is likely while Raigad Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg may experience similar weather conditionsAccording to the Thane Belapur Industries Association TBIA the minimum temperature in the region was 26 degrees Celsius with 78 per cent humidity and no rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours The total seasonal rainfall now stands at 594 millimetresAmong other stations Colaba recorded a minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius with 9 millimetres of rainfall while Santa Cruz SCZ logged 27 degrees Celsius with no rainfall In Ratnagiri the minimum temperature was 243 degrees Celsius with 172 millimetres of rainfall and 84 per cent humidity whereas Mahabaleshwar remained cooler at 18 degrees Celsius blanketed in fog and received 258 millimetres of rainfallFurther inland Pune recorded a minimum temperature of 214 degrees Celsius 90 per cent humidity and 183 millimetres of rainfall Matheran reported 19 degrees Celsius 84 per cent humidity and 38 millimetres of rainfall while Malegaon remained dry at 226 degrees Celsius with 90 per cent humidityAcross other parts of Maharashtra and Goa widespread cloudiness with isolated light to moderate rain was observedIn Sangli the minimum temperature was 218 degrees Celsius with 85 per cent humidity and 12 millimetres of rainfall bringing the seasonal total to 621 millimetres under cloudy skies Dahanu reported warm humid weather with a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius 86 per cent humidity and no rainfall while its seasonal total stood at 404 millimetresSatara remained damp with a minimum of 214 degrees Celsius 95 per cent humidity and 111 millimetres of rainfall pushing its seasonal tally to 286 millimetres In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar the minimum temperature was 228 degrees Celsius with 81 per cent humidity and 02 millimetres of rainfall while the seasonal rainfall reached 507 millimetresAlong the coast Mormugao in Goa witnessed humid conditions with a maximum temperature of 318 degrees Celsius a minimum of 242 degrees Celsius and 56 millimetres of rainfall taking the seasonal total to 938 millimetresIn Solapur the minimum temperature stood at 231 degrees Celsius with 73 per cent humidity and 152 millimetres of rainfall while the seasonal rainfall climbed to 288 millimetres Beed reported a minimum of 21 degrees Celsius maximum of 327 degrees Celsius 83 per cent humidity and no rainfall with a seasonal total of 46 millimetresNashik saw dry conditions recording 229 degrees Celsius 80 per cent humidity and no rainfall while Udgir remained humid with 218 degrees Celsius 93 per cent humidity and 3 millimetres of rainfall matching its seasonal total Nandurbar also stayed dry at 247 degrees Celsius with 85 per cent humidityOverall the IMD observed scattered rainfall activity across interior Maharashtra humid coastal weather and partly cloudy skies prevailing across most regions on Friday
