<p>The National Council of German Women&rsquo;s Organisations has kicked off an initiative called Women7 (W7), which is a group of civil society organisations that will come together to promote proposals on gender equality and women&rsquo;s rights. One of the advisors for it is Indian-origin ElsaMarie D&rsquo;Silva, founder of US-based Red Dot Foundation, a platform that documents sexual harassment and abuse in public spaces. &ldquo;Through the W7 group, we will work on influencing policy to end gender-based violence through a systematic change of lens,&rdquo; D&rsquo;Silva shared about her new role, a much-needed one that is an offshoot of Germany assuming presidency of Group of 7, a global political platform, this year.</p>

<p>The fashion world is still grieving the recent passing of Andr&eacute; Leon Talley, an American fashion journalist and creative director, who is best remembered for his contributions as editor-at-large at Vogue magazine. Talley succumbed to complications from a heart attack and COVID-19 on January 18, at the age of 73. &ldquo;Andr&eacute;&rsquo;s contributions to the world of fashion have been paramount. He was a change-maker in fashion, not just in America but around the world. Back when he started, the fashion world was largely dominated by white people, in all roles. Andr&eacute;, sitting in the front row of major fashion shows, soon realised that there wasn&rsquo;t enough diversity in this space. He was instrumental in introducing and working with models of colour. He also had a knack for recognising young talent and emerging designers. It was said that he could look at a single image and grasp the designer&rsquo;s potential and what they were capable of. Fashion wouldn&rsquo;t be where it is without the monumental presence and contributions of Andr&eacute; Talley,&rdquo; Aanchal Bubber Mehta, a city-based fashion designer, told this diarist.</p>
<h2>It&rsquo;s time to make the write choice</h2>

<p>Writers, read on. Gulmohar Quarterly, an online literary platform, has put out an open call for its next issue. Co-founder Amarkant T shared that there are four categories &mdash; short fiction, poetry, personal or non-fiction essays, and photo essays that can range from creative work to photojournalism. &ldquo;There are no constraints [to the subject matter] since there is no theme at all,&rdquo; he clarified. <h2>Why men want to be virtually together</h2>

<p>The cat seems to be out of the bag when it comes to whether men prefer meeting potential partners in real life, or online. A recent survey carried out by a dating app, which involved 50,000 men from across Indian towns and cities, revealed that a staggering 84 per cent felt a lot more confident meeting a girl face-to-face after having met them online first. Also, 68 per cent of them felt that matching on a dating app meant that the feelings are mutual between them and the other person, while 47 per cent of them aged between 21 and 30 said that virtual dating gives them the advantage of time since they don&rsquo;t have to think on their toes to come across as smart or quirky.</p><p>
