The city’s largest Metro train yard and workshop at Mandale, Mankhurd, a double-deck structure with as many as 72 stabling lines for eight-car trains, has reached a milestone as 54 per cent of civil work has been completed. Trains to be stabled here will be from Metro Line 2B between Mandale and DN Nagar, Andheri. The trains from Line 2A, an 18.6-km-long elevated corridor with 17 stations, will be stabled at Charkop depot.

“Mandale depot is an integral part of the 23.64-km-long Mumbai Metro Line 2B, routed from DN Nagar to Mandale. It is coming up in an area of 30 hectares, which mainly comprises government land. A total of 54 per cent of the civil work of the Mandale depot is completed. The Mandale depot will have 72 stabling lines along with important structures like washing plants, underground water tanks, a workshop, a central store building, inspection pits and building, a power-receiving substation, a test track, a security watchtower and many other amenities,” a senior official said.
