The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a `red alert` for Raigad and Ratnagiri districts in Maharashtra, predicting heavy rains on May 23.

The weather department issued an `orange alert` for several districts in the state for the next few days and predicted extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall.
