IMD issues warning for thunderstorms, lightning in parts of Maharashtra

The IMD issued a Nowcast warning for Vidarbha on Saturday, predicting thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rainfall in Yavatmal, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli. Light to moderate rain is also expected in Nagpur, Washim, and other districts. Authorities have urged residents to stay safe and avoid outdoor activities.

With Mumbai receiving intense spells of rain since Friday, August 15, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday, August 16, morning issued a Nowcast warning for several other districts of Maharashtra. While addressing the alarming weather situation across Maharashtra, the IMD indicated that parts of the Vidarbha region are expected to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rainfall activity.

The IMD released the warning at 10:05 am on Saturday. The information also stated that the Vidarbha region will be experiencing rough weather conditions for the next three hours.

Furthermore, according to the IMD bulletin, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely to occur at isolated places over the Yavatmal, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli districts.
