‘A new chapter’
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) tweeted, “#MMRDAMetroUpdate . It’s time to welcome & celebrate the new chapter of #MumbaiInMinutes! Rolling Stocks from Mumbai Metro Line 2A & Line 7 have reached their destination!”
MMRDA officials said trial runs on Metro 2A and Metro line 7 are expected to begin in March, and operations are likely to start in May. The fares on these corridors will be R10 for 0-3 km, R20 for 3-12 km, Rs 30 for 12-18 km, Rs 40 for 18 km-24 km and Rs 50 for 24-30 km, and so on.
The routes
Metro line 7 is a 16.475 km-long elevated corridor with 13 stations. It will provide interconnectivity among Western Express Highway, Western Railway, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), the ongoing Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar) and the proposed Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli). It will also provide connectivity between the Central Mumbai and the northern suburbs, and access to the Mumbai international airport, SEEPZ, National Park and other landmarks. Metro Line 2A, a 18.589 km-long elevated corridor with 17 stations. Both the lines would reduce the current travel time about 50 per cent to 75 per cent.
