Former Deputy Director of Education (Mumbai) Sandeep Sangave has landed in trouble for allegedly issuing a fresh Letter of Intent (LoI) to the unauthorised Morning Star School in Dharavi, instead of ordering its closure. Sangave is accused of misleading the government by portraying the school as a newly established institution, while concealing its unauthorised status and the fact that a criminal case had already been registered against it.

Education rights activist Nitin Dalvi filed a complaint with both the state government and the Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR), demanding Sangave’s dismissal from service. Taking serious cognisance of the complaint, the School Education Department has directed the Education Commissioner to conduct an inquiry and submit a report. Meanwhile, the MSCPCR has also asked the Principal Secretary of the School Education Department to initiate a separate investigation. Both directives were issued on the same day.
