Deepti Chauhan, who threw her son off the terrace of her Dahisar building on Saturday before plunging to her own death, spent almost eight hours on a suburban train on Friday. Police investigations have revealed that the 31-year-old, along with her son Siddhesh, shuttled between Borivli and Churchgate stations several times, contemplating ways of committing suicide. She kept her phone switched off all the while.

Deepti left her Dahisar home at around 9 am. Though she had planned to visit her mother's residence at Tardeo, she subsequently changed her plans. She had earlier called her parents, Narayan and Parmila Parmar, to inform them about the alleged harassment she was facing from her in-laws. Her parents had asked her to move back in with them. However, she spent hours on the train mulling over the consequences of the move.

By the time she finally returned home, Deepti had decided how she would commit suicide."The plan was duly executed the following morning," said Sunil Deshmukh, assistant commissioner of police. Investigations have revealed that the senior Chauhans wanted Nilesh, Deepti's husband, to move back in with them, and were allegedly subjecting Deepti to severe harassment. The Dahisar police have arrested Nilesh, his father, his brother Bharat, and his wife Sarla. The four have been remanded in police custody till April 21.
