Mumbai mothers most demanding about hygiene: survey

Mumbai and Bhopal rank last in terms of hygiene, while Lucknow and Kolkata occupy top position, according to a survey.

Mothers in Mumbai and Bhopal have ranked their respective cities last in terms of hygiene, while Lucknow and Kolkata occupy top position,u00a0where mothers are quite satisfied about the physical, mental and social aspects of their child's health, according to a survey.


"Frequency of minor illness, frequency of major illness, resistance to disease, weight loss and slow growth were rated as the top five factors contributing to the overall health of children," the survey said.



"Mumbai's mothers seem rather demanding and have rated the city low on four out of the five top health parameters.


The only factor they are happy with is the (low) frequency of major illness, which could be because of availability of better vaccines and medical facilities," the Lifebuoy Child Health Quotient said.

The survey found that mothers rated nutritious food, pure water, hygiene habits, quality of education and cleanliness of surroundings as the top five factors contributing to the overall health of their children.

The cities surveyed were Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur, Pune, Lucknow, Kolkata, Bangalore, Trivandrum, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Raipur, Ranchi, Patna and Bhubaneshwar.

Lifebuoy soap and AC Nielsen surveyed 2,876 mothers with children aged between 4-12 years.
