Motorists will now travel a seamless ride on this stretch. The Southern arm of this Rs.22-crore flyover was opened in June, 2014. Now with the Northern arm's opening, the flyover will provide six lanes for up and down traffic, providing signal free ride from South to North and vice versa thus reducing travel time and fuel cost. It will also decongest the Kherwadi and Kalanagar junctions.

Further, the CM also performed bhoomipujan of 1.6 Km elevated BKC-Chunabhatti connector. Once completed this Rs 200 crore elevated connector will help motorists coming from Eastern suburbs to reach BKC quickly. At present motorists take more than 30 minutes to reach BKC from Chunabhatti as they get stuck in traffic near Sion circle and also on the Sion-Dharavi link road. Once the construction of the connector is complete they will be able to reach BKC from Chunabhatti in less than 5 minutes.

“The work on the North arm of the flyover has been done in a record time. Now this will ease traffic woes at Kherwadi.,” said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Further, commenting on the importance of the elevated connector he said, “The east-west connectivity of Mumbai is very vital and hence the work on the BKC-Chunabhatti connector would start at the earliest.”

BKC-Chunabhatti Connector: Work delayed as MMRDA waits for grand photo-op

It should be noted that more than two months back the MMRDA officials had said that the work on the BKC-Chunabhatti connector would start in March and the contractor was almost ready with all the preparations to begin. However the actual work on the same has begun after the Bhoomipujan on Sunday.
