'Ram ki duhai dene wali BJP, Laxman ke pariwar ko bhool gayi'. This SMS is being circulated by the supporters of the Mahajan family after Poonam Mahajan was denied a ticket from North East constituency. Kirit Somaiya was named BJP candidate from this seat.

Poonam was vying this seat on a BJP ticket, however the party finally decided with Somaiya who has represented the constituency in the past.

In 2005, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had crowned Pramod Mahajan with the title of Laxman during BJP's silver jubilee celebrations in Mumbai.

One of the supporters of Poonam Mahajan said, "Mahajan deserved the seat as her dad had already contested from here. She is young and is capable of leading the constituency and representing the problems of the people. Kirit has lost the support of the masses."
