Maharashtra government on Wednesday alerted Mumbai international airport authorities to conduct check-up of tourists coming from swine flu-affected countries following the outbreak of flu in Mexico and US.

"A health check-up of tourists coming from affected countries would be conducted at the airport before immigration clearance," an official from the Chief Minister's office said.

The Central government has sent a team of doctors for check-ups and health officials from municipal corporation would help them, he said.

A similar notice was also sent to Mumbai Port Trust and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), he said. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Chief Secretary Johny Joseph reviewed the swine flu situation at a meeting here.

The suspected patients would be treated at Kasturba Hospital, VN Desai Hospital and Port Trust Hospital. The Haffkine Institute and Kasturba Hospital have a facility to test the swine flu virus, he said.

The Director of Health Services has said there is an adequate supply of medicines to deal with the flu.
