A security staff from Air India was felicitated on Thursday for playing Good Samaritan once again, and helping a passenger locate his lost pouch, which had currency worth over Rs 5 lakhs. On June 13, AI passenger Sanjay Gupta, who was flying into Mumbai from Seoul via Hong Kong, had forgotten his pouch on the connecting flight in Delhi.

The pouch contained $6,056 and €1,290, worth around R5 lakhs. While conducting a post-flight inspection, Subhash Chander, a security officer with AI, spotted the unattended pouch and immediately informed his seniors. Gupta was traced within two hours, and, after verifying his details the
baggage was handed over to him.

Pleased with the honesty exhibited by its security officer, Air India on Thursday felicitated Chander. This is not the first time that Chander has returned unattended baggage to passengers. In 2003, he found a bag containing gold ornaments weighing close to one kilogram, in a Saudi Arabia-bound flight. In another incident in 2004, the security officer found a pouch containing currency worth Rs 7 lakh.

Chander, a Delhi resident, said, "I was on my regular anti-sabotage check, when I noticed this pouch kept beside the hand-rest of seat 2A in the executive class. The passenger, Sanjay Gupta, who was travelling with his wife and daughter were contacted through some cards available in the pouch and the money was handed over to them, while they were boarding their connecting flight to Mumbai."
