Usha Kale was crippled by arthritis and an undetected fracture in her right leg. Now, after two years, a corrective surgery has put the Goregaon resident back on her feet
“I did not want to get operated upon at this age, but with the unbearable pain that was the only option,” said Usha. On June 12, the Kale family visited Dr Balabhai Nanavati Hospital. Doctors recommended that a surgery be carried out in both knees. “She told me that she had severe arthritis. An X-ray showed a fracture in the tibia.
It was because of the fracture that she had developed a bow-like condition in both knees,” said Dr Pradeep Bhosale, director, Arthritis and Joint Replacement Surgery, Nanavati.
After an operation that lasted almost six hours, and cost Rs 4 lakh, was carried out on both her knees on June 17, the fracture in the right leg was treated with a metal rod that was connected to the knee replacement implant. The arthritis and bow knees were treated and now Usha is back on her feet.
