Gold artisan held for embezzling jewellery worth Rs 19.5 lakh in Mumbai

The accused was traced to West Bengal by the VP Road Police in Mumbai and arrested after a technical investigation, and valuables worth Rs 14 lakh have been recovered, police said

The VP Road Police in south Mumbai have arrested a gold artisan from West Bengal for allegedly embezzling gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 19.5 lakh, which had been entrusted to him for polishing and diamond setting.

The accused was traced and arrested after a technical investigation, and valuables worth Rs 14 lakh have been recovered.

According to the police, the complainant, Anupam Tapankumar Pal (42), had handed over 272 grams of 14-carat gold jewellery and diamond polki to the artisan, Bishu Ramkrishna Mangal (33), who worked at his shop.
