In the complaint, the father had alleged that on June 10, his daughter's husband and brother-in-law came to his house to drop her off and asked him to send her back only when Rs 1 lakh was arranged.
However, the father arranged some money and sent the daughter back to her in-laws with her husband and brother-in-law the same day. The next day, he received a call from the in-laws saying that his daughter is admitted to PGI Hospital after suffering burn injuries.
When the father visited the daughter in the hospital, she revealed that her brother-in-law doused her in petrol and her husband set her on fire. But the in-laws tried to cover up their crime saying that his daughter caught fire when she was trying to disperse bees with fire on terrace.
A case has been registered against the victim's in-laws based on the father's complaint. The accused is at large and the investigation is underway.
In another incident, a woman was allegedly beaten up by her husband and in-laws over dowry. The incident came to light after the video of the assault went viral.
