My messy man won't make compromises like I do!

Dear Diana,I adore my boyfriend with my whole heart, and we're definitely heading down the serious road. We've been talking about getting married after we get more established. I'm looking forward to that but I have a little problem. He's not the best at compromising. I know I am being nit-picky but his family lives au00a0 differently than I do. Like they leave food out over night and don't clean up before going to bed. I talked to him about it and he just brushed it off as no big deal, but I honestly won't feel comfortable living that way. I hate wasting food. Besides it is expensive!! I work and he doesn't have a job presently. An example of where I'm willing to compromise with him is that I really don't like having a TV in the room where I sleep and he does. I compromised saying that we could get a TV cabinet that I can close when we are ready to turn it off and got to sleep. I compromise, he doesn't. That's not exactly an exciting prospect to me. If he leaves food out all night and still wants to eat it well then let him. He may break these small habits when he gets older. But the only thing you can really do is be honest with him and tell him how you feel. Also, you may feel that relationships are about compromise, while he feels that in a relationship you should be able to be yourself and be happy. Neither of your relationship style needs change.
